Demand for kratom exports abroad continues to increase so that cultivation is still wide open. On another aspect, the price of rubber is decreasing day by day so that the income of farmers is decreasing, not even enough to support their daily needs. Conditions like this have triggered people who work as farmers in the West Kalimantan area to start looking at kratom for cultivation.
Kratom trade does not only affect kratom farmers and businessmen. Kratom has a big impact on the positive movement of the economy of a region, we take the example of Kapuas Hulu (the largest kratom producer in Indonesia), the results of kratom trade contribute to the regency’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) as a whole.
Throughout 2020 kratom in Kapuas Hulu generated around IDR 1,334,760,960,000. This amount is an assumption of money circulating among farmers at the price of crumb kratom, not yet calculating the value added from transportation services and others. It is recorded that the number of kratom in Kapuas Hulu is around 44,492,032 trees.
